Roz (white rice (basic) & variation)

Serves 4
1 3/4 cups water


1 cup rice
1 tbsp Crisco or butter
salt to taste

bring water to boil add rice, Crisco/butter and salt, bring back to a boil.


Turn flame to low and allow to simmer covered for 20 to 25 minutes. 
Once water is completely absorbed and rice tender, fluff with a fork and serve.

Variation to basic rice recipe

this variation gives a much nuttier and flavorful rice

heat 1 tbsp Crisco/butter, add rice and fry till just pink proceed with above recipe.

For an even richer more distinct flavor use *ghee instead of the Crisco or butter.

*ghee, is a clarified butter which has a distinctive toasted flavor, often described as nutty. 
Ghee is used widely in the Middle East and in Indian cooking.
